Some sports have become obsessed with weight to the detriment of speed and power. The fact is that a body that moves at pace with power will cause more damage that a slow moving heavy body. It is possible to be bigger and faster if the training programme is correct. E.g. Lawrence Marsh now playing in Sydney and reckoned to be one of the fastest props in the world trained by Wellfast training techniques. James Haskell known for his pace off the mark is also trained by Wellfast training methods.
Nobody wants to run SLOWER! Players can never fulfil their true potential if their training programme makes them big and slow. Trainers should look at their training programmes and study the outcome. Did the player get faster? Yes or No? If the answer is No and the sport requires speed then the programme needs to be rewritten.
